Opportunities for European Research on Feed Safety

L1-4

Feed is at the basis of the food chain and therefore of high importance for food safety, but also significant for consumer choices and economic aspects of the industry and individual farmers. Key issues along the whole feed/food chain are attended to in research funded by the European Commission (EC). The European research programmes are designed to address the changing and evolving research needs of European industry and policy makers. Emerging needs are also taken into account. The presentation will demonstrate how the EC funded research has responded to challenges in the feed and food safety area. New tendencies and opportunities for research in feed and food safety will be highlighted. The European added value of the research becomes apparent in the funding of excellent state-of-the-art research in key priority areas and by pooling research resources.
