The Danish Plant Directorate is a Directorate under the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. In dividing responsibilities with the other institutions covered by the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Danish Plant Directorate concentrates on the first stage of the food chain from farm to fork. We contribute to the framework of development-oriented business activities within plants, seed, feedingstuffs and organics. The Danish Plant Directorate is organised in different departments and their assignments cover legislation on: Seeds; feedingstuffs and fertilisers; plants, potatoes fruit and vegetables; use of fertilisers and the establishment of vegetative cover; EU agricultural schemes; organic farming. The Department of Feedingstuffs and Fertilisers ensure that the legal framework for feed safety is respected. For this purpose, they use a number of tools, of which legislation on feedingstuffs and inspections are the most important. The laboratory is the official laboratory for control of feedingstuffs and fertilizers in Denmark and the national reference laboratory (NRL) for all activities concerning additives in feedingstuffs. The laboratory for feed and fertilisers carries out analyses for nutrients, additives, antibiotics, undesirable substances, toxins, enzymes, microscopy etc. in accordance with the national feedingstuffs and fertilizers control. The lab is certified according to ISO 17025 by DANAK (the Danish Accreditation Board) and analyses are carried out in accordance with EU approved methods when these apply. When European methods do not apply they are carried out according to approved Danish methods.
